About

Why study respiratory health in athletes?

Respiratory symptoms are among the most common health problems in athletes, and asthma is the most prevalent chronic disease in competitive sport. For example, asthma prevalence in cross-country skiers is several times higher than in the general population.

Our research aims to generate new evidence on the prevalence, mechanisms and treatment of respiratory disease in athletes. Our goal is to improve athlete health and performance through evidence-based knowledge.

Who is this research for?

  • Athletes and coaches — information on recognising respiratory symptoms and seeking care
  • Physicians and healthcare — diagnostic tools and research evidence for managing athlete asthma
  • Researchers — open-access publications and collaboration opportunities
